This week Ese’s Shoot and Quote Challenge is scent. I immediately thought of my garden, but I needed the perfect quote and photos. I found the quote fairly easily since I know the smell of my garden reminds me of helping my dad in the garden when I was younger.  I especially remember the smell of fresh vine ripened tomatoes. I should since my brothers and I seemed to spend all summer picking them. I’m so grateful that my dad had a garden and that he made sure all of his kids helped with it.

Now I just needed to capture the scent or more accurately scents.

Marjoram, rosemary, lemon basil, lavender, and newly planted tomato plant .
Love the scent of fresh scallions.
More scents to love.
Scent of marigold, garlic chives, tomato plant, etc.

I know I bared my soul when I wrote my novel. Still, I took liberties in writing the pat happy ending because my muse deserves that ending, and I wrote to inspire more kindness and understanding in the world. Real life is of course more complex.

Yet, Joyce Carol Oates was brave enough to use the title, My Heart Laid Bare and like Edgar Allen Poe she tells the dark sides in her stories. Apparently this works well for her. People are still talking about My Heart Laid Bare on Goodreads.
